Foundation Course in Group Analysis
Turvey Groupwork are now accepting applications for training on the IGA Foundation Course in Group Analysis for 2025/2026.
Early bird applications accepted until the end of April 2024 with fee of £1300 (full fee £1450)
Turvey Groupwork will be providing this foundation Course with a mix of online and in person sessions for 2025-26 offering an interesting experience of theory and experiential learning which will offer a solid basis for your work with groups.
This course is suitable for anyone who has an interest in working with groups, including mental health workers, such as doctors, psychologists, psychotherapists, nurses, occupational therapists etc, as well as counsellors, teachers, managers, probation officers, prison staff, voluntary workers and others.

The Theory:
The Friday evening workshops provide an introduction to the psychodynamic theory underlying Group Analysis and groupwork. The Saturday morning keynote lecture with guest speaker will cover various topics pertinent to group process and theory whilst applying this to real group experience.
Students will be asked to actively participate by presenting theoretical papers to the whole group and explore the application of theory to practice.
The course handbook will be available upon application, this includes a full reading list and registration will give you access to the IGA library as a student member.
The Group Experience: Lucy Chessum and Pauline Kennedy
You will attend five experiential groups during each weekend and five online experiential group throughout the year with your group conductor. This will give you an experience of both face to face group working and online dynamics within groups.
The Large Group experience:
The large group will be on line throughout your year foundation course and this group will provide you with an experience of being in a large group with the Turvey training community, which includes extended generations of graduates who have trained at Turvey and staff from the courses.
Further Training
The Foundation Course in Group Analysis can be used as a stand-alone course but is also a requirement for further professional development: via the Diploma Course, to qualify as a Groupwork Practitioner; or to become a Group Analyst by completing the Qualifying Course of the IGA.
